February: Progress Update #2

February is over now. This month was dedicated to Cross-Stitching.

I have made most of my progress when it was still January. This month, I found it pretty hard to keep working on a hobby that fell out of my hyperfocus already. Most of my time, I have been streaming and playing games. I wouldn’t want to change the schedule after the fact, because this project is about perseverance and planning for me, but it’s almost safe to say that instead of cross-stitching, this month, in reality, was mostly dedicated to gaming and streaming my gameplays.

As mentioned in a previous blog post here, I gave my PC room an upgrade and spent most of my time here. Technically, this doesn’t mean I can’t cross-stitch here, but sitting at my desk and using my computer usually leads to me indulging in other (digital) hobbies. Furthermore, the project I started on proved to be more difficult and extensive than I presumed. I will, obviously, continue to work on it in my own time.

Here’s the image I was working on:

And here’s my progress so far:

As you can see, so far I’ve only worked on his hair. There’s a lot of yarn colours that I don’t have yet, so my choices were pretty slim. I was also given the advice to iron my cloth before working and wash it after it’s done. Sadly, I don’t own an iron yet, so for now I had to do without.

I try to keep reminding myself that I shouldn’t (feel or have to) rush things and that it’s not about the result. This project was my own idea, and I shouldn’t have to be the teacher that grades my performance at the end of the month. With that being said, any amount of progress is worth being proud of! It’s also interesting to take the role of a distant spectator in my own works and just be patient and curious about where this is going. As an artist (with autism), it’s difficult to not have a grip on where my hyperfocus flees, but it’s a fun ride from the perspective of a viewer.

You can go on and read the next post to find out what March holds for me this year!

My apologies for any inconsistencies and reduced functionalities on this website.

Please look forward to more improvements in the future and thank you for visiting Chalunaria!
