So far, I’ve been busy figuring out WordPress. I’ve only learned how to code static websites using HTML and CSS coding languages, so WordPress is kind of new to me. I’ve been told it has a steep learning curve, which makes it really hard to understand in the beginning, but once you do understand it, you can create pretty cool things with it. This does keep me motivated for now, because I can notice I’m starting to understand more and more of it and the things I want to make with this website start to come together more now.
I’ve already started an on-the-side project I had “planned”, which is making script mods for The Sims 4. Gaming will probably always be my hobby, and sadly, I simply can’t just play games without integrating it into some sort of creative outlet. That’s why I’m making characters from other games like Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail in The Sims 4. Making these characters is different from making script mods, it’s way easier. Luckily, other people who are playing these games are doing the same thing and have already made a lot of the characters, outfits and other objects from the games into a form that’s usable for The Sims 4. This way I can start using their uploaded ‘custom content’ for just playing the game, until I am done making my own.
As for the script mods, it seems to be a very difficult thing to master and will probably take some time. That’s why I chose to not plan this project into one of these months, but rather use it as a project on-the-side. I must be careful that this or these on-the-side projects are not going to take up the time I need for the hobbies I did plan out.
Now, I’m reverting my attention back to my website(s). I am now updating all the pages on the site, now that I know how to properly differentiate pages and their contents and templates, which are responsible for the styling. I’ve just finished the pages on Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail. On these front pages, I’m explaining a bit about the games. I’m going to do this for other topics and hobbies as well. Since introducing these topics require some information, I’m using these as a landing page and I will be adding some links, to redirect the readers to a more in-depth page about the corresponding topic, and the reason I’m making these pages. I will be adding related blog posts on there and style it in a way that look and feel more like the topics themselves.
I know exactly where I want to go with this and what my general idea for the website is; to display my creativity, my hobbies and my creations. Yet one of the most difficult things for me to complete is the home page. I’ve spent quite some time on implementing media and styling it the way I want it to look, but the functionality of WordPress, or the lack thereof, is bottle-necking me. On the topic pages, it’ll mainly be information that needs to show correctly, but the home page is like my business card—it needs to welcome people onto the page and look good, not too awkward.
In my case, it suffices to say that it needs to be perfect.
This is doable on PC, but I figured that once I start viewing my website on other devices with bigger or smaller screen sizes, it looks way different and even unreadable. This will be the reason my website will look incomplete or might change drastically the coming month(s). Though, the main goal will be to keep up the functionality. In my opinion, a website can look quite different, as long as it functions the way it’s supposed to and certain key components stay in their same, respective places until the next major update. If any major updates are planned, this will naturally be announced beforehand. Luckily, I still gave myself the time to be completing this website as I go. It’s simply not possible to create an entire functional, good looking website in one month and never have to edit or improve it again—it requires regular maintenance. After January ends and when I will move on to the next project, this month’s project, the website, will be moved to my on-the-side projects.
My apologies for any inconsistencies and reduced functionalities on this website.
Please look forward to more improvements in the future and thank you for visiting Chalunaria!
